4 FLOW‐BUSINSTALLATIONANDADDRESSING
4.1 INSTALLATION
AllmodulesinaFLOW‐BUSsystemmusthavetheirownaddress.FLOW‐BUSsystemswillnotfunctionproperlywhen
thereare more modulesonthesameaddress.Toavoidthis, modules willdoacheckbeforegettingoperationalon
theirbus‐addressandgiveamessagewhenthisaddressisoccupied.Ifyoure
ceiveacompleteFLOW‐BUSsystemfrom
Bronkhorstallmoduleshavebeen installedtothebusalready(inonesystem).Eachtimeyoupower‐upyoursystem
afterwards,themoduleswillstart‐uponthesameaddressonthebus,becausethesesettingsarestoredintheirnon‐
volatile memo
ry. So if you receive a new system, normally you only have to connectthe cables and switch on the
power.

If a new module has to be connected to a bus system, it needs a free address. Normally this will be the first free
address counted from address 3. Address 0 is reserved for the start‐up procedure. Address 1 is reserved for an
interfacemoduleto(personal)computersandaddress2hasbee
nreservedforoperationmoduleslikeE‐7000.There

4.1.2 AutomaticinstallationtoFLOW‐BUS
MostFLOW‐BUS moduleshave thefacilityto install themselvesautomatically onthe bus.This meansthattheyare
abletofindthefirstfreenode‐addresscountedfrom3andconnectthemselvestothebus.Thisactioncanbestarted
bymeans of a manual interface on themodule. Directlyafterwards the newmodule will be part of the FLOW‐BU
S
system.
